From where and since when is "Valentines Day" come from?

Saint Valentine associated with Valentine's Day, according to legend, was a priest who lived and worked in Rome in the third century.

Valentine considered this decree as an injustice. She ignored him and continued to bless the wedding couple young children clandestinely.
